First tenkara fly fishing

Water and place: river Jizera in North Bohemia

Date of fishing: 9.08.2017

Weather and water conditions: air temperature +20-28 C, water temperature +17 C, partly cloudy, light rain before noon

Fishing method: tenkara & fly fishing

Tackle and baits: tiny french nymphs and dry flies

Catch in total: two rainbow, a few brow trouts and graylings, many little chubs, approx. 25 fish in total

The biggest fish: 13 inches grayling & rainbow trout

Special features of a fishing day: The weather was very whimsical that day: quite cold rainy morning for summer and hot sunny afternoon. Due to low water level we have chosen japanese fly fishing method – tenkara. After just a few minutes a little chub came “online” and then anothers finger-sized fish. Suddenly in a deep pool under tha bank a violet strike of a brawny rainbow trout stopped all doubts about fish activity. After rainbow trout came also decent size graylings from very shallow water. Everything on french nymph… Afternoon some hatches started finally, so we changed nymphs with dry flies. I was very pleased to observe some huge chubs when tying flies on the bank. However hunting for largest wasn’t successful unlike smaller always hungry chubs. Next time we’ll catch this monster chub definitely! Clients: Suzanne and Britt, USA
