Fishing for perch on Elbe

Summer fishing for shoaling perches

Water and place: river Elbe in North Bohemia

Date of fishing: 18.08.2016

Weather and water conditions: sunny calm weather with almost no wind, the air temperature up to +25 C, the water temperature is +22 C.

Fishing method: spinning with soft bait

Tackle and baits: fishing rod Mikado Winckle Picker 2,70 up to 50 (!) gramm, reel Sica Libra 3000. fluorocarbon 0,22. Baits: soft silicone baits up to 3 inches.

Catch in total: up to 50 of small and middle-size perches.

The biggest fish: over 1 pound perch.

Special features of a fishing day: This day was for me almost a unique opportunity to walk alone a couple of hours along the river bank. The weather was sunny and calm. A few feet from vegetation cruised average size asps and many small chubs and roaches chased insects and leeches. Perch took my baits almost flawlessly, but the size was not so pleased – approx. 70-150 grams, occasionally came a little bit larger, over 250 grams and only one bent my rod into the shape of an arc. The most greedy bites were on the drop shot or carolina rig systems. Due to the huge number of fry near the bank many small cancers at a depth fish were not so anxious to take my bait, however each third cast brought a perch. Thank You, river Elbe, for such positive emotions that morning!
